How is Twitch paying streamers MORE if they aren't earning anything?

Twitch much like YouTube is operating at a loss but a recent update it telling creators they will be earning more!

The reason I care about the topic is because I am part of a streaming channel my brother runs with some other people. They were excited when the update dropped but I can't help but feel like Twitch is lying.

Doesn't Amazon own them now? Maybe they can afford to lose more money? I don't get it!

Twitch is owned by Amazon, yes. They can afford to eat the loss and still pay out because their stock investors are what matter and where the real money counts. It is very confusing to people that don't follow all that stuff though so I get it.

A lot of changes they have done recently mainly just benefit those that earn the big bucks on the platform. For smaller channels, you still scrape by. I have an online friend that streams 3 times a week. Gets decent subs but still has to work outside of that.

They don't have to earn. Same with YouTube. Both operate at a massive loss, more so YouTube than Twitch but when you are under Google's branch (or Amazon) you can afford to lose a crap ton of money.

Was going to mention this. Google and Amazon lose millions if not billions all the time but it doesn't hurt their stocks that much and that is where the real money and value is. Plus they own so much crap it is insane!!

Amazon is one of the biggest companies in the world and they do base a lot of what they spend on their investors. These big chain stores have leverage to spend a lot of money without making revenue from it. One a company gets so big and gets put on the stock market, it ends up having leveraged protection. I remember watching a video on it a few years ago. Fascinating stuff!

It really just falls back on stocks. Companies can afford the loss because of the investors. It creates problems though because these companies are then held liable to the stock holder's values and desires for the company. This is why you see so many businesses acting the same right now with social issues. They are all "owned" by the same people.

Did you see that Google just lost 70 billion because of their AI nonsense? I was like... Whoa man. That Gemini disaster is BAD. People just starting pulling stock in massive numbers.

70 billion is a lot to us but only a drop in a bucket to them. The parent company is massive. Still, that is a big enough loss that I think they would do something about it. But who knows!

It makes me angry that one company can have this much power and wealth in the market. It should have caps or something. It seems insane really that there are just a handful of corporations that basically own everything now.

I agree but under the guise of a "free and fair market" it won't happen. We have a lot of tycoons, corporations, and just plain evil people that manipulate capitalism and the stocks to benefit themselves.
