We're working on a custom car project and need motors that fit inside or just outside the wheels. Quadcopter motors seem like the right size, but are they compatible? Also, would we need a reduction unit for each motor? We're eyeing motors with less than 1000kv if possible.

Sure thing! If you go for drone motors on your RC car, you'll need a reduction unit on each motor. Even with the reduction unit, the combo of drone motor and reduction unit will still be shorter than a standard RC car motor. Aim for motors with less than 1000kv for the best fit.
