Why does Far Cry 6 feel like a step back?

So I got Game Pass on my Series S recently and been playing through some of the free games on offer through the service. I never played any game from the Far Cry series up until Far Cry 5. I was playing co-op with my brother and absolutely loved it. We had a lot of fun with it and some of the characters were making me laugh so much my sides hurt!

They announced Far Cry 6 was being added right as we were finishing up on 5 so we both downloaded it and started playing it right away and... I am honestly let down. Like it feels like such a massive step back from 5. The map is terrible IMO and there are virtually no animals anywhere. The characters are boring and I don't feel any connection at all to the story.

We played about 6 hours and just both stopped. I uninstalled the game. I am not going back to it. Anyone else have this experience? I wanted to like it but I just couldn't.

I think a lot of people feel this way tbh.

I have played all of the games from the series and while not all of them were solid, I at least had fun. I felt like it was more of a chore to play through 6 and I never even finished it. I ended up going to other games. I do think Far Cry 5 had its issue, like the ending I was not very happy with but it was fun to play!

I didn't bother getting it because of the mixed reviews it was getting. The fact that it was added to the game pass so quickly shows it was not selling as much as they had hoped. Far Cry 5 was okay but pretty darn buggy for a AAA game. The 4th one was the first and only other one I played and I preferred it.

So I am not alone then! I know other people have their complaints online but I also see so many sites defending the game and getting offended by the notion that anyone could not enjoy it. I am hoping the next one is better. The acting in the game was great, just not the story or the mechanics imo.

I felt the story was dry. It felt too hand-holdy and as if I was someone that has never played a game before. Hard to explain. I didn't end up finishing it so I don't know how things end but if they carry on with this format, I will move on from Far Cry games.

I get what you are saying. I felt that too. It was hard to explain for me as well. I will move away myself if this is the direction they are going with it. It is a shame because it is one of very few co-op games I liked in recent years (Far Cry 5 I mean).

Yeah the co-op scene doesn't have much going on in terms of games I am interested in anyway.

At least there are plenty of online games to play with others but I still miss how many co-op campaigns gaming used to have.

Nintendo has a lot of co-op and couch games still. They stuck with their butter and jam because it appeals to their core market. This is why they never focused too much on having a big online presence for their users and it almost feels outdated compared to Xbox and PS.

Since it seems like a decent amount of people do play video games here, I thought this thread can be handy! I will put lists of the free games that will be available with the Game Pass and PS+ this month....
